Kick-off Meeting in Pakistan

The Project, EU Action against Drugs and Organised Crime (EU-ACT) has identified Pakistan as a key country to co-operate with, and additionally act as a regional focus point in the South Asian region for the Project activities. To this end, a close cooperation is envisaged with relevant Pakistan institutions, namely the Ministry of Narcotics Control; the Anti-Narcotics Force of Pakistan; Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Higher Education Commission and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Project is designed to promote the comprehensive and balanced EU approach on drugs, and enhance synergies with the EU policy cycle for organised and serious international crime. The Project, which is funded under the Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace (IcSP), shall support Georgia in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDG 16.a), the 2016 UNGASS Outcome Document on the World Drug Problem and the 2012 Vienna Declaration.

Following this Kick-off Meeting, work will commence supporting the Government of Pakistan in addressing the issue of drugs. This Project will work with the Ministry of Narcotics Control and other relevant parties, in order to identify the most urgent and important measures that need to be addressed to prevent and combat drug trafficking, and also to reduce drug demand in Pakistan.
