The Kick off Meeting of the Black Sea Prosecutors Network (BSPN) was organised by EU-ACT Project in Odessa from 26th to 27th of September 2018.
This activity is linked to the setting up of an informal network of prosecutors (the Black Sea Prosecutors Network) that would help operational cooperation among them in the drug trafficking investigations in the region. Financial Investigations are an affective tool in the investigation and prosecution not only of money laundering but also of other serious offences such as drug trafficking. The identification of best practices will help to improve national and transnational investigations and prosecutions.
The establishment of a flexible mechanism, such as a Network of Prosecutors specialised in the fight against drug trafficking, would become a vehicle to contribute to building trust between countries through direct contact, promoting the exchange of information and identification of best practices in the investigation and prosecution of offences, and improving at a regional level the skills of prosecutors dealing with high profile investigations involving organized crime groups.
EU-ACT is determined to support the setting up the first steps of this informal network and intends to discuss the BSPN concept during the meeting in Odessa. At the end of the meeting, an Action Plan for 2018 – 2019 should be drafted based on the discussions (needs and priorities) with participants in the meeting.
