Two Ukrainian experts visited Kyrgyz facilities where Opiates Substitution Therapy is provided on 27th April.
The participation of two Ukrainian experts in the Paris Pact Experts Working Group (PPI EWG) on Drug Prevention and Treatment, held in Bishkek during 25 and 26 of April, offered EU-ACT the opportunity to achieve two activities at the same time, as the Project has supported the visit of two Ukrainian experts, already participating on the EU-ACT / CADAP hosted PPI EWG event, to relevant Kyrgyz facilities where Opiates Substitution Therapy is provided (particularly in prisons).
Their participation in the visit will help the Project to understand the similarities among both countries in terms of OST provision and the difficulties to overcome; this might help the Project also to follow up in Ukraine with a potential support to the implementation of the legal provisions -now pending to be approved- that set up OST in prisons.
In April 27 the chief doctor of the Kyiv Clinical Narcological Hospital "Sociotherapy", Volodymyr Yaryi, and the director of the Ukranian Monitoring and Medical Center on Drugs and Alcohol, Serhii Shum, visited the Republican Narcological Center of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Prison #31 to study the practice of Opiates Substitution Therapy (OST) applied in Kyrgyzstan. The visit was organized in connection to their participation in Paris Pact Experts Working Group (PPI EWG) on Drug Prevention and Treatment, held in Bishkek in 25-26 April, in frames of the Project ‘EU-ACT: EU Action against Drugs and Organised Crime’ for 2018.
