EU-ACT Project has a well-established, solid cooperation with the State Service on Financial Intelligence under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic (FIU) in the areas of enhancing expertise in financial investigations parallel to drugs, as well as enhancing cooperation and collaboration of FIU in international platforms where Kyrgyzstan is a member.
One of the main activities ongoing currently within this cooperation is assistance to Kyrgyzstan in implementation of its commitment in frames of its membership in FATF - Financial Action Task Force (A global money laundering and terrorist financing watchdog), on elaboration of the National Risk Assessment on money laundering and financing terrorism (NRA).
NRA is an instrument, to identify, assess and understand the money laundering (ML) and terrorist financing (TF) risks that they are exposed to. Once these risks are properly understood, countries with membership in FATF will be able to implement anti-money laundering and counter terrorist financing measures that mitigate these risks. This approach, the risk-based approach, is central to the effective implementation of the FATF Standards and applies to financial institutions and designated non-financial businesses and professions.
